Brief:

Observe and record features of the built environment through photography. Improvise with your phone camera if needed. Use a better camera if you have one. As you do this, we would like you to begin to question attitudes toward “snaping”, “selfies” against more thoughtful, and better choreographed, photography.Avoid using “general” shots that capture the “whole” building from a distance. Instead, zoom in, explore interesting angles and be inventive in terms of composition.Take at least 100 photographs so you have lots to select from. Narrow this down to 36 create a 6 x 6 grid from your selection of 36. Do this edge to edge  with no gaps and create a solid square of 6 x 6. you can mix black & white with colour.

But plan your project carefully. use only one of the following building typologies:

  1. Religious

  2. Health

  3. Commercial

  4. Residential

  5. Educational

  6.  Industrial

  7. Recreational

  8. Cultural

Research stage:

For this project I selected Commercial type of building out of the eight on the list, during the summer Holidays I was in Poznan City in Poland visiting family I decided to take photographs there for two reasons one because unlike Dundee, Poznan has a lot of unique building from Religious, Industrial to Commercial Buildings, the second reason is that i wanted my project to stand out that is why I chose to do mines in a different city as well as in country than the rest of my class.Shortly after arriving I decided to do my pick a commercial building/ shopping mall called Stary Browar which was built in 1849 as a Brewery owned by a German brewer from Switzerland Ambrosius Hugger.

Over the years the Brewery expanded and continued its production all the way to September 1939 when the Brewery fell under German management and the production of beer lasts until 1944 when Germans begin to transform the cellars and vaults of the factory into bunkers and shelters.  Unfortunately the brewery gets vastly destroyed during the battles of Poznan.

.After the war the brewing factory had been owned by two companies before closing down in 1979 and had began to deteriorate until December 1998 when a Company called Fortis owned by Grazyna Kulczyk buys the real estate at Polwiejska street from brewing Company Lech Browary Wielkopolskie. The Fortis company begins works on a project business and Art Centre called 50 50, the investment was due to be finished by end of 2003.

Equipment:

For this project I decided to use a DSLR Camera, Canon EOS 700D  and using an 18-55mm lense to take photographs of the building from outside as well as inside.

Selecting process:

Once I was done taking photographs I began to  transfer them from the camera to my pen drive but also on my cloud account to have a backup as well, from there I decided to number them down for two reasons one, because I wanted to see if I have enough as I had enough time to go back and take more if need and secondly because it will be easier to identify them for myself when it comes to editing and selecting.

My next step was to colour code the photographs with two coloured frames around them one red and other green.
